The US House of Representatives approved economic sanctions against Turkey

The US House of Representatives has approved economic sanctions against Turkey for buying the S-400 air defense system from Russia.

More than two-thirds of the US Senate also approved a $740 billion defense budget bill that included economic sanctions on both Turkey and Russia.
According to a foreign news agency, the United States plans to impose sanctions on Turkey over the purchase of the Russian S-400 air defense system since last year, but current President Donald Trump avoided sanctions to avoid angering Turkey.

Democratic Senator Chris Van Hollen says in this regard that President Donald Trump has been providing security to Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan for many years, but the newly elected President Joe Biden will keep a close eye on the actions of the Turkish President.

Senator van Hollen added that now is the time for Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to make a decision whether he wants to stay loyal to NATO or disengage in the region.

Sources say that the economic sanctions by the US will target Turkey’s defense industry and administration.

On the other hand, the Turkish authorities say that the American sanctions on the purchase of Russian defense systems will damage the relations between the two countries.

Turkish officials termed the American sanctions as non-constructive thinking and said that these sanctions will not yield any results, but the relations between the two countries may be damaged.
