Mitsotakis-Christodoulidis meeting with Macron

The developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the Cyprus-Greece electrical interconnection project (Great Sea Interconnector) were discussed, among other things, on Saturday by the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulidis, with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, with the two leaders to agree on a Cyprus-France-Greece meeting in New York.

According to a written statement by the Government Spokesperson, Konstantinos Letympiotis, during their communication, the two leaders discussed the developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, expressed their common concern for possible further destabilization and deterioration of the situation in the region and discussed ways to de-escalate the tension.

At the same time, it is added that the two leaders discussed the project of the Cyprus-Greece electrical interconnection (GSI), in the context of the participation of a company of French interests.

It is noted that “both underlined the importance of this project of common interest in the implementation of the energy goals of the European Union”.

In this context, as reported, it was also agreed to hold a joint meeting between President Christodoulides, the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, and President Macron in New York next week, within the framework of the work of the United Nations General Assembly.

It is also reported that during the discussion, reference was also made to the upcoming Med9 Leaders’ Summit, which will be held in Paphos, on October 11, and in which President Macron will also participate. (KYPE)
