IDEA Group denounces maneuvers against opposition electoral witnesses

Former Argentine President Mauricio Macri has spoken out following the latest problems with the accreditation of witnesses just days before the presidential election on July 28.

A video was posted on social media in which Macri warned the international community to be “more attentive than ever” to what is happening in Venezuela.

“Mr. Nicolás Maduro has to accept the election results. Venezuelans are about to vote for their freedom again and we cannot allow him to prevent the accreditation of the witnesses proposed by María Corina Machado and the presidential candidate (Edmundo González),” he said in a video released by the Democratic Initiative Group of Spain and the Americas (IDEA).

He added that the government must be prevented from “once again manipulating the information system, from trying to prepare the conditions to disrespect the will of the Venezuelan people.”

“Dear Venezuelans, it is now or never. Exercise your right to vote freely and decide on your future. The world is with you, we are all with Venezuela,” he added.

By Friday, July 26, the credentials of all witnesses should be ready, since that day will begin with the installation of the electoral tables throughout the country. The leader of the political movement Primero Justicia, Juan Carlos Caldera, said that they are “manually generating the credentials,” that is, printing them one by one, because they are in “a race against time.”

“Witnesses are a fundamental right of each candidate at the polling station. We will continue to insist,” he said on the Buenos Días programme on VPItv.

On the other hand, the leader of the political organization Encuentro Ciudadano, Delsa Solórzano, asserted that the National Electoral Council has committed to resolving the lack of accreditation of witnesses from the Democratic Unity Roundtable.
