The ARS announced on Monday September 23 the detection of three cases of dengue in the municipality of Vallauris.

“We speak of an indigenous case when a person has contracted the disease in metropolitan France and has not travelled to a contaminated area in the 15 days preceding the onset of symptoms. As a reminder, dengue fever is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito infected with the dengue virus (tiger mosquito in metropolitan France)”specifies the Regional Health Agency in a press release.

Mosquito control operations underway

The ARS also explains in its press release that it has decided to carry out a mosquito control operation in the area where the dengue carrier was infected.

They are underway in the municipality, on public roads and in private gardens.adds the ARS. “The objective: to eliminate larval breeding sites and eliminate adult mosquitoes potentially infected to prevent them from biting other people in the neighborhood.”

A survey will also be carried out in the neighborhood “to identify people who may have symptoms, inform them about what to do and disseminate prevention messages.”

Already a case this summer in La Colle-sur-Loup

A first case of indigenous dengue fever was reported in August in La Colle-sur-Loup.

Since the beginning of the year, the authorities have recorded more than 3,000 cases of indigenous dengue fever in metropolitan France.

“On a French scale and especially on a global scale, the years 2023 and 2024 were record years for the number of dengue cases”stressed Marie-Claire Paty, coordinator of vector-borne disease surveillance within the infectious diseases department of Public Health France.
