Pakistan cricket team’s visit to Ireland postponed

Pakistan Cricket Board and Cricket Ireland have announced to postpone the series of 2 T20 matches scheduled in July. Both teams were scheduled to play 2 T20I matches in Dublin on July 12 and 14.

This joint decision by the two boards was made after the Irish government announced that it would not be possible to hold matches behind closed doors before August 10. These days Pakistan cricket team will be in England to play a series consisting of 3 Tests and 3 T20 matches.

Pakistan Cricket Board Chief Executive Wasim Khan expressed sadness over the postponement of the tour to Ireland due to the outbreak of the Corona virus and said that he was looking forward to playing cricket at a venue where Pakistan played its first match against Ireland in 2018. Test match played and the fans in Ireland always cheered Pakistan players.

He said he fully respects and endorses Cricket Ireland’s decision in these difficult circumstances, as we all recognize that nothing comes before the health and safety of players, officials and fans. Under these conditions, it is difficult for all countries to hold their home series. In the meantime we all have to work together as a cricket family.

Wasim Khan said that PCB is standing by the side of Cricket Ireland in these difficult situations and we will look forward to visiting Ireland again as soon as the situation returns to normal.

Cricket Ireland Chief Executive Viren Datrim says that after the Irish government’s decision to lift the phased lockdown on May 1, it is no longer possible to host the Pakistan cricket team on these dates. We considered various options but due to government rules and regulations, biosecurity, quarantine and many other issues, it is not possible for us to organize these matches.

He said that he was very sorry for not being able to host an excellent T20 cricket team, but there was a strong relationship between Pakistan and Ireland Cricket Board. Waiting for a time when we can once again compete against each other on the cricket field.
