Yesterday morning, ELAS arrested a 25-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man in Neo Heraklion, for fraud and theft by complicity and as a follow-up.
In particular, according to ELAS, on Thursday morning the accused, pretending to be accountants, approached a 95-year-old woman in the area of Cholargos and, under the pretext of paying a tax refund, entered her home where, using the method of employment, they extorted the sum of 1,320 euros from her and fled in a vehicle.
In the context of targeted searches, police officers of the DIAS Team spotted the car on Attica Road in the area of Chalandrio, with the two defendants on board and called them in for a check.
At the sight of the police, the driver sped off in order to escape their arrest, however, the police followed them, informing the ‘Immediate Action’ center at the same time.
The vehicle was immobilized in the area of Neos Heraklion, following the operational coordination of the Center and the assistance of police and two-wheelers of the Immediate Action.
After a check in their possession, the amount of 1,320 euros, which they had seized earlier, was found, while a wig was also found which the 40-year-old woman used in order to make it difficult for the police to identify her.
In addition, the preliminary investigation of the Papagou-Cholargou Security Department revealed an additional 6 cases of fraud and theft against the elderly in various areas of Attica, but also in Kordelio, Thessaloniki, where in at least 3 cases the 40-year-old woman used the wig in question.
The arrested persons, with the case filed against them by the Papagou-Cholargou Security Department, were taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Athens.
