Education Minister denied ordering private schools not to start classes before September 30

Education Minister Hector Rodriguez denied that private schools have been ordered to suspend or delay the start of classes before the scheduled date, which is September 30.

Through his Instagram account, Rodríguez indicated that that day was set as the deadline for the start of classes. However, he clarified that “this does not deny the possibility of starting earlier depending on what each school deems appropriate.”

He also warned that “no official has the authority” to delay classes in private schools.

Rodríguez spoke out after an alleged statement circulated in which the Ministry of Education urged private schools in Miranda to refrain from receiving students before the scheduled date.

Alleged circular to the campuses

A “special circular” dated September 20, 2024, addressed to representatives, without mentioning the educational institution, was circulated on the WhatsApp messaging platform, stating that they allegedly received instructions from the Ministry of Education to “refrain from receiving students” before September 30.

“Good afternoon, dear directors of private schools, it is reported that there is no authorization from the governing body of the Ministry of People’s Power for Education, CDCE Miranda and CDCE Baruta, to start classes before the established dates,” reads the alleged statement.

In the letter, they indicated that students could not attend classes “even without a uniform” and that the principal’s guidelines must be followed.

A representative who received the statement said in interview to the news portal The Stimulus that school recreational and sports activities had been postponed.

However, Minister Rodríguez stated that at no time has his office denied the start of the school year in those schools that had already scheduled it.

School calendar

On September 9, the Venezuelan government reported that the school activities From the 2024-2025 period, they will begin with the maternal area and then start the other levels of education.

At that time, Rodriguez specified that the new school year will begin on Monday, September 30, progressively until October 4 in the different educational subsystems.

According to the organization, the return to school schedule is as follows:

-From September 9 to 15, a school maintenance plan would be carried out

-From September 16 to 22, a training plan for teachers would begin

-From September 23 to 29, a teacher care plan will be launched

Rodríguez explained that the training plan is intended to strengthen the knowledge and skills of teaching staff throughout the country. In addition, the training seeks to provide teachers with the necessary tools to improve their performance in the classroom and prepare their educational processes more effectively.
