Ornella Muti guest of the Procida Film Festival – Funweek

Guest of the second evening of the Procida Film Festival, Ornella Muti talks about her career, environmental struggles, and love for her family.

Ornella Mutian icon of Italian and international cinema, was the guest of honor on the second evening of the Procida Film Festival, an event founded by Fabrizio Borgogna, which this year reached its twelfth edition. With a career spanning over four decades and a filmography full of unforgettable roles, the actress has won over audiences with her irony, intelligence, and timeless beauty.

Muti has won numerous awards throughout her career, as well as collaborations with Italian and international directors. Since her debut directed by Damiano Damiani, she has The most beautiful wifeto films with Monicelli, Scola, Staino and Woody Allen just to name a few. A journey in which, as the actress interviewed on the stage of the Cinema Procida Hall by Beppe Convertinithere were also mistakes but they helped her grow and learn.

“Since you can’t go back, I don’t want to rack my brains thinking about what I wouldn’t do again. – says Ornella Muti – Because what I’ve done and the mistakes I’ve made, and which I can regret, have served a purpose. Mistakes are useful for precisely this, right? To understand what you shouldn’t do. It’s like when you fall, you fall and get up again, you don’t stay on the ground because you fell. Instead, you try to rebuild from there. Mistakes are important. They shouldn’t be made with malice and you have to try to respect others. I don’t know if I’ve always succeeded though”.

An intimate and familiar meeting that diva gives to the audience of the Procida Film Festival, during which he remembers some great actors with whom he worked such as Ugo Tognazzi («Generous, imaginative and funny man») and Max Troisi («A very sweet man»). The desire and will to create a family led her, however, to not linger on the set more than necessary. «I have always worked a lot – she says – and once the day was over I ran home to my children».

Time passes quickly and pleasantly and Beppe Convertini asks her what her relationship with time is and how she sees herself in 10 years.

“But what can I tell you?” he replies. “I see myself as I have always been. I don’t see myself changed. If you don’t look in the mirror, you actually think of yourself as always. I’m not one to look in the mirror, because I prefer to feel myself than to see myself. Let’s put it this way: I’m a perfectionist, so if I look there’s always something wrong because age goes by. How will it age? And what do I know! Are you happy to be growing old? No, but I don’t think anyone is, regardless of beauty. Who wants to see physical decay?!

Ironic, funny and intelligent, Ornella Muti he doesn’t back down from challenges and above all he isn’t afraid to expose himself to fight the battles he cares about.

“I fight causes that I think are useful to this world – he says – to us, to our children, to our grandchildren, to the future. Why? There is little attention now for everything that is our health, our mental and physical well-being. In a world where everyone now eats, drinks anything without considering what can happen to you, health is important to me. We must help each other to have greater awareness”.

The idea that Earth could become like the one depicted in the Disney/Pixar film Wall-E (which is no longer possible to live in because it is now submerged in waste), scares her.

“I have children, grandchildren and I would like to leave them at least an idea, a concept of a conscious world – explains Ornella Muti – We are passing through and whatever may happen, the earth remains and will reproduce. We are the ones who have not understood this concept”.
