He then rang his cell phone where a man, introducing himself as a police officer, asked him to find as much money as he could so his mother would not go to jail.
“Initially they took him to the station undercover. It was a lady pretending to be me. She told him something has happened, she was crying. “I have to find money”, something like that he said to the child. From what he remembers, he also said his name. ‘K.. I’m the mother,’ she told him. Then he was taken by a man, around 55, as I heard his voice later. And he was trying to calm him down after introducing himself as a Policeman. He told him ‘mom ran a red light, she had an accident, she hit a little girl, she’s going for an operation and in order for her not to go to jail we need to collect as much money as we can’. They asked him for the sum of 70 thousand euros. The kid panicked, they asked him for his cell phone and took him in it covertly. They told him to leave the landline on in the dining room so that he is busy and neither the child can call someone else, nor can we contact the child,” the 13-year-old’s mother describes to protothema.gr, who speaks for a climate of terror cultivated in the child by the alleged Policeman in order to blackmail him.
“They told him that the girl’s parents are Albanian and if he doesn’t give the money he will go to prison. They succeeded and handled the child, after stressing him out first, then handled him as if he were a robot,” she explains.
The child, in a fearful state, followed the instructions of the thug and put in a nylon bag 2,500 euros that were in the house as well as jewelry and watches.
Then, he threw the bag from the balcony of the apartment onto the street from where the perpetrators grabbed it and turned it into “smoke”.
“The child began to search. They told him on the phone where to look. The child went crazy, what he found he put in a bag. And they tell him ‘throw them in a bag from the balcony’ and when the time came to throw them they told him ‘throw them now’. The little boy had already seen two cars in the neighborhood, namely a black van. As soon as he threw them away, they told him to go inside to get the landline and after he went in, they took them and left.”
The scammer called the 13-year-old again, asking for more money. Unfortunately for him, his mother was next to him, who encouraged the child to comply with what they asked of him.
“He explained to me, we entered the house. I got the first shock, the little one also understood that he was deceived. But this gentleman kept going and took him out of hiding many times. He says to him himself ‘did you find anything else?’ and I told the little one to say yes. He believed it and we began to suspect that they will come from here again for the little one to throw away another bag. They told him to come to the center of Athens, they gave him an appointment. ‘Put the others in a bag, take a taxi to give us the things there’, he told him”, emphasizes the mother of the victim who notified the Police and together they set a “trap” for the spiral.
The 13-year-old, under the supervision of his mother, headed towards the Omonia area carrying an empty backpack.
There he followed the mysterious man’s instructions and left the backpack at the place he indicated. As soon as the 67-year-old foreigner took the backpack, the police stopped her and handcuffed her.
“We went to the center of Athens, at a safe distance, me and the child, he was walking and talking with him. They must have been watching him from somewhere because they were telling him on the phone where to walk. They told him where to leave the backpack. He left it, the Police were there. A woman went and got it, they followed her and when she went to get a taxi, they arrested her,” says the 13-year-old’s mother about the moment of the arrest of the perpetrator.
The 67-year-old, a citizen of Bulgaria, was brought to the Zografou Security Department, while the authorities are looking for her accomplice.
