ISIE: New information on suspicious funding for media and associations

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) announced that it had recently received new information from the Central Bank concerning significant financial transfers received by certain private media establishments and associations that had requested their accreditation in the observation of the electoral process.

In a press release made public on Sunday, September 22, 2024, the ISIE specifies that these transfers from various foreign parties took place just before and during the current electoral period, as well as during previous elections.

The electoral authority stated that it had forwarded this information to the public prosecutor for follow-up, “as part of the examination of accreditation requests submitted by these institutions and associations for coverage of the presidential election, and with the aim of verifying compliance with legal criteria, in particular those of neutrality, integrity and independence.”

It should be recalled that the ISIE has already refused the accreditation requests of the associations “Mourakiboun” and “I Watch”, for the same reasons, namely, a suspicion of dubious foreign financing.

The body also withdrew the accreditation of journalist Khaoula Boukrim. According to the body, the journalist had not provided “objective, balanced and neutral coverage of the electoral process” and had not “respected the electoral code” or “the ethics of her profession.”
