A “red” alarm has been signaled in the Municipality of Aktio – Vonitsa, after the measurements carried out in the water supply system, “showing” the unsuitability of the water for any use.
Specifically, in an announcement on Facebook, the municipality urges the residents of the communities of Vonitsa, Monastiraki, Thyrrei and Drymos to avoid drinking and consuming water for the purpose of preparing food. However, there is no mention of when and how the problem will be solved, leaving residents in complete confusion.
As a resident of the area complained to enikos.gr, there was no campaign from the Municipality to inform the citizens so that they would not use the water, and no further explanations were ever given, such as what the measurements showed.
Characteristically, as the resident mentioned, “with a modest announcement, the municipality wanted to inform about such a serious matter, without an information campaign, nor any warning. Our fellow human beings who are older and do not have social networks, could not be informed if it were not for word of mouth. For two days now we have been with bottled water bottles and we don’t know when this suffering will stop”.
At the same time, the complainant stated that the residents distrust the inappropriateness of the water and continue to drink and use it, as they consider it to be a lie. “There are many people who don’t know what to do, but also many of those who know don’t believe it and continue to turn on their taps and consume water,” she added.
The municipality’s response
The mayor of the area, Athanasios Kasolas, said that the situation does not inspire concern, while in two days the problem will be solved.
“We made measurements and saw that some units were elevated relative to the permitted limits and that is why we decided on the universal ban on drinking and consumption of water by citizens. However, it is not something to worry about. We are working and taking the necessary measures so that in two days from today, the problem will be solved. In any case, we distributed water to the people and tried to inform them”, said the mayor.
Nevertheless, the resident complained that the disposal of the bottled water was not done in the right way, as instead of the Municipality distributing it to the residents, especially the elderly and those unable to move, the citizens must use whatever means they have at their disposal to visit the community of each village.
