Afghan cricketers are far ahead of the world in talent: Gulbuddin Naib

Afghanistan Cricket Team Considered among the senior players of Gulbuddin Naib Says that his team is far ahead in the world of cricket in terms of skills and talent.

Gulbuddin Naib was talking about his team’s better performance in the ongoing ODI series against South Africa in this interview.

Talking about talent, he gave the example of young bowler Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar, who bowled well in the first one-day match against South Africa.

He said that ‘Look at Ghazanfar that he made a place in the team at such a young age and then bowled like that against South Africa.’

Talking about the victories and performance of the Afghanistan team, Gulbadin said, “It is not that we have achieved everything in two years, one year or in the recent World Cup or T20 World Cup.”

“When we came to play the Asia Cup in 2016, we thought that if we play well on this big platform, our cricket will go even further.” So we targeted one, one team there.’

“We used to lose very close matches against big teams and we knew we could have won but there were some small mistakes that we couldn’t understand,” he added.

‘Then we lost some very close matches against Pakistan but we were confident that we would beat them. So we beat Pakistan and tied with India.’

According to him, all this was ‘a plant planted by senior players, the fruit of which we are eating.’

Gulbadin Naib mentioned the difficulties and past of Afghan players and said, ‘What did we have? Believe me, the whole team used to play with one bat. We were lucky to get two or three trousers and shirts on a tour.’

‘We didn’t even have a place to practice in Kabul, the ground is too far away. This foundation which has been built in the name of cricket board has not been given to us in charity or zakat. No. Until today, if we win matches, we get funds.’

Referring to the past situation, Gulbadin said, “I remember that our neighboring country offered Muhammad Nabi to come and play for us.” He could have played but he said no, he will play cricket only from Afghanistan.

“It’s not like our journey is over after all this, we still have a long way to go, it’s very difficult to maintain this name,” he said.

Gulbuddin Naib made his ODI debut for Afghanistan in 2011 against Canada and has played a total of 83 matches so far.
