Organized by the FFESSM (French Federation of Underwater Studies and Sports), this event is a great opportunity to see the French colors shine, in a world-renowned competition contested by 343 fin swimmers from 22 countries. Let us remember that swimming with fins is a spectacular activity, especially when it takes place in a natural environment like this year from Rouet beach. With monofins or bifins, swimmers glide like dolphins and reach speeds of over 13km/h.

Two French disabled athletes in the spotlight

After the Paralympic Games, two disabled swimming champions will be on the starting line: Thierry Corbalan and Nadine Ansard. Presented as the “dolphin man”, Thierry Corbalan had both arms amputated after an accident in 1988. Since then, he has never stopped pushing himself. His passion for the sea and his taste for challenges have led him to achieve incredible performances by swimming across imposing distances such as the Mediterranean.

As for Nadine Ansard, she has managed to overcome her fear of water. A member of a Vendée club, her goal is not to get on the podium at these championships but to overcome her fears, master her body and live her dreams. She is also behind a “Naturo Palm’Tour” tour of France, which aims to have her swim in a natural environment in each department, and to share her life and sports journey in rehabilitation centers at the same time. Nadine Ansard will speak before the first medal ceremony on September 23 to present her challenge and her performance at the Open Water Finswimming World Championships.
