Why is the Test match between Sri Lanka and New Zealand being played for 6 days – Sports

The first Test match between the teams of Sri Lanka and New Zealand is being played in the Sri Lankan city of Galle, which will be played over 6 days instead of 5.

A Test match in cricket usually lasts for 5 days, in which both teams play 2 innings, 2 innings for 5 consecutive days until the result of the match.

But if you are told that the Test match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka starting from September 18 will be played over 6 days instead of 5, you will surely be surprised.

It should be surprising because there is no such instance in the recent past that a Test match is scheduled for 6 days instead of 5.

These days the New Zealand team is on a tour of Sri Lanka where the first match of the 2-test series between the two teams is going on in Galle, this test is scheduled from 18th to 23rd September which is 6 days.
