“We discussed preparations for the winter season with the contractors. On the part of the municipality, all the necessary actions have been completed – we have valid contracts with three contractors, something that was not done last year. Therefore, an unenviable situation arose on the roads, when there were not enough forces to clean the city. I hope that the scenario of last year will not repeat itself this year, and my most important task for the contractors is to carefully follow the weather forecasts and respond in time,” says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
According to the signed contracts, road users will have to ensure traffic safety in any weather conditions – in the presence of snow, sleet, sleet. The streets will have to be cleaned already during the snowfall, and after the snowfall stops, the main city streets, bridges, slopes, slopes will have to be completely cleaned and sprinkled or watered with anti-skid mixture within 4 hours, the rest of the streets – within 6 hours.
“I heard the fears of the representatives of the companies cleaning the roads and sidewalks that there are often problems due to cars left on the roadsides or even chaotically arranged road signs that prevent faster mechanical cleaning. Taking into account the comments, it will be reviewed whether the road signs are really correctly arranged, if not, then we will make adjustments. I also want to remind you that the administrators of apartment buildings are responsible for cleaning the courtyards and sidewalks in the courtyards, who must ensure that the residents safely reach the public spaces or do not get stuck in the courtyards”, says Klaipėda Mayor Arvydas Vaitkus.
Currently, the companies responsible for the maintenance of city streets already store over 2,200 tons of salt, 600 tons of sand, as well as 500 tons of sand-salt mixture, additional purchases are planned as needed after the start of the season. 22 sweepers-spreaders, 6 snow loaders (for snow loading and removal), 6 tractors, other smaller equipment are ready for work in the city.
This year, three companies will clean the streets of Klaipėda city. UAB Vakarų švara will work in the southern part of the city, UAB Ecoservice in the central part, and UAB Klaipėdos paslaugos in the northern part. Maintenance of city sidewalks is also planned. The company “Klaipėdos želdiniai” is responsible for the sidewalks of the southern part of the city, the company “Ecoservice” for the northern ones.
