A big Egyptian star announces his retirement suddenly on air

Former Pyramids and Al-Ahly player, Ahmed Fathy, announced his retirement from football after the end of his contract with Pyramids Club, while he was in the analytical studio for the Al-Ahly and Gor Mahia match in the African Champions League.

He said on MBC Masr channel, Saturday, that he “informed the Pyramids management last year that he would sign a contract for only one year before announcing his final retirement.”

He added that he is proud of his football career, explaining that he is happy that his latest achievement is winning the Egypt Cup with Pyramids Club.

He explained that “the first championship in his career was the league with Ismaily Club, and after that he moved to Al-Ahly Club, and he did not lose any championship with the team.”

Fathi concluded his statements: “I thank Al-Ahly fans because they were my biggest supporter.”

With Fathi’s decision to retire, he ends his career as a player that lasted for 23 years, and he won 21 championships with Al-Ahly during the 11 years he spent in the Red Team’s fortress.

Fathi began his football career in the youth sector of Banha Club, before moving to Ismaily in 2001 and continued with the Dervishes until 2007.

Fathi then moved to Sheffield United before returning to Egypt via Al-Ahly at the beginning of 2008 and stayed there until 2020. During this period, he went on loan to Kazma of Kuwait and Hull City of England.

He also moved for a season to Umm Salal of Qatar in 2014 and returned to Al Ahly again in 2015. After the end of his career with Al Ahly, Fathi joined Pyramids in 2020.
