Classes tomorrow: some in schools, some in Zoom

Following the assassinations in Lebanon, the waves of attacks by the Air Force and the fear of Hezbollah’s response, the IDF announced this evening (Saturday) the tightening of the instructions of the Home Front Command from Haifa and the north. The IDF estimates that the attack by Hezbollah will take place tonight.

The IDF spokeswoman stated that at the end of a situation assessment, it was decided that starting this evening at 8:30 p.m., a change will be made in the defense policy of the Home Front Command in the guidance areas of the Lower Galilee, Upper Galilee, the Gulf, the valleys and the center of the Galilee, and some of the Golan South settlements in accordance with the instructions of the Home Front Command.

As part of the changes in the guidelines, all localities from the Haifa line to the north are moving to policy 2: gatherings will be limited to up to 30 people in an open area and up to 300 people in a building. Activity in workplaces can be held in a building or in a place from which a standard protected space can be reached during self-defense. Educational activities can be held in places from which you can reach a standard protected space during the defense. The beaches in these areas will be closed to the public.

The municipality of Haifa announced a transition to a yellow outline: “In the education system, physical learning will be done in a partial format and in a way that will allow all students to reach standard protected spaces that can be reached within a minute. Any class or kindergarten that is invited to study at the educational institution will continue the day including afternoons and including transportation in special education. The rest of the students will learn Remotely using Zoom or the other school systems. The principals of the schools and kindergartens will inform the parents about the placement system this evening.” In the meantime, some schools have already informed the students that the studies will take place remotely.

The municipality also informed that the bathing beaches will be closed, the community centers and the sports facilities will only operate if they have standard protection and it is possible to reach a protected space within a minute. The municipality is raising alertness from the evening which includes a physical presence at the municipal crisis management center (CMC) and the various ropes.

In Kiryat Ata, it was decided that classes will be held in capsules in accordance with the protection capabilities of the educational institutions and that notices will be delivered to parents by the educational institutions.

The education system in Kiryat Bialik will operate as usual tomorrow, with the exception of the youth school where only students of grades 1 and 2 will study, and Ort High School, where only students of grades 11 and 12 will study. Dormitories without standard protected space will not operate.

In Kiryat Yam, the education system will operate partially. The educational institutions where classes will not be held: Karamelki, Tsotzikim, Tirimok, Lior and Katkatim day care centers; Kindergartens Alon, Sabar, Nurit, Atrog, Tomer, Gefen, Zeit and Fig; and the Amirim school (all grades will learn remotely, with the exception of grades 1 and 2 and the special education classes, which will be taught at the school). In special education, classes will take place as usual. Regular transportation and special education transportation will take place as usual.

Studies in Kiryat Motzkin will only take place in protected institutions. Hai Park, the Supertali and Eshkol Hafis will be closed. In a post on Facebook, Mayor Tsiki Avisher wrote to the residents: “I ordered detailed instructions to be given to every director of an educational institution in the city as to how it will operate tomorrow. Each director will inform you directly. Trust them. In schools and kindergartens where shelters are accessible in less than 60 seconds, classes will be held by the hour As usual, as long as we are in state 2. Private kindergartens and dormitories are not allowed to operate tomorrow. It is important to emphasize that there are authorities in our area who have chosen to cancel schooling. This is not the case in Kiryat Motzkin , we updated the municipal hotline.”

Even in Nesher, the studies will be held in a way that will allow all students to reach standard protected spaces within a minute. There will be no transportation to educational institutions, with the exception of special education. Only the grade and kindergarten students who come to school will continue the school day, including afternoon activities. The rest of the students will study remotely using Zoom or the schools’ online learning systems.

The Municipality of Tirat Carmel announced that it will be possible to hold studies only in institutions where there is a standard protected space and it can be reached within the period of protection. The schools where there is no standard protected space will operate in shifts.

The University of Haifa will switch to a work-from-home format, with the exception of essential activities required to maintain functional continuity and prevent damage to research. There will be no educational activity, including exams. Other essential activity (including in laboratories) will be carried out on the condition that it is possible to reach from the place of its execution to a standard protected space within 60 seconds.

The Rambam Medical Council announced that the delivery rooms will continue as usual in a protected complex, and elective surgeries that were planned in advance will take place as usual. The institutes – oncology, hematology, pain, gastro, etc. – will also operate as normal. IVF activity will take place. There will be no activity in the outpatient clinics in the fields of psychiatry, AAG, rheumatology, women, plastic, allergy, mouth and jaw, neurosurgery, dentistry, orthopedics, knee, shoulder, spine and eyes. Outpatient clinics in other fields, operating in buildings adjacent to protected complexes, will exist.

Earlier today, the airspace from the Hadera line and to the north was closed for 24 hours to all types of aircraft, due to the security tensions. The closure of the airspace is intended to clear it for air force activities. In addition, the activity of evacuation, police and aerial firefighting, CTR Haifa, the transportation route (CVFR) coastal line to and from Haifa, and international flights to and from Haifa.
