What’s changing on WhatsApp in October

As we do every month, we examine the latest updates from the WABetaInfo platform to forecast what’s coming to WhatsApp next month.

Quick Lists for Contacts and Chat Groups

A new feature is currently in development, and there’s a good possibility we’ll see it in our apps within the next month, as it is relatively straightforward and has been under development for quite some time.

WhatsApp is indeed developing a feature that allows users to sort contacts and groups into personalized lists. Furthermore, the platform is currently working to enable the classification of these contacts more efficiently, through the creation of filters that will be accessible directly from the conversation details.

A Like Button for Status Updates

We mentioned this last month, and we were correct because this new feature is indeed being rolled out, albeit only for a select few users: we are, of course, referring to the ability to like a status update using a new button.

However, as explained by WABetaInfo, the deployment is currently partial, and it is expected to roll out over the coming weeks, which inevitably means that some users may not have access to it until October.

A New Interface for the “Communities” Tab

At times, a complete redesign of the interface is necessary. This seems to be the case for the communities feature, which is still relatively new and therefore subject to adjustments.

This is how WhatsApp is preparing a complete redesign of this tab, featuring a layout intended to be more compact and above all more readable, with new buttons that allow users to see all the conversation groups within communities at once, taking up a smaller portion of the screen compared to the current design.

The new interface is still under development and has not yet been made available on beta testers’ smartphones.

Like every month, we look at the latest discoveries from the WABetaInfo platform to predict what’s new on WhatsApp next month.

Quick Lists for Contacts and Chat Groups

A new feature that is still in development, however, there is a good chance to see it on our apps within the next month, as it is both quite simple and has been in development for some time now.

WhatsApp is indeed working on a feature that allows you to sort contacts and groups into personalized lists. But what’s more, the platform is currently developing a classification feature that will allow the creation of filters appearing directly from the conversation information.

A Like for Status Updates

As we mentioned last month, this new feature is being rolled out but currently only to a select group of users: the ability to like a status update using a new button.

However, as explained by WABetaInfo, the deployment is only partial for the moment, and it will take place in the coming weeks, meaning some users may not gain access until October.

A New Interface for the “Communities” Tab

Sometimes, a complete overhaul of the interface is necessary. This seems to be the case for Communities, a feature that is still fairly new and subject to change.

WhatsApp is preparing to offer us a complete overhaul of this tab, focusing on a layout that is more compact and readable. New buttons will allow you to view all conversation groups within the communities more efficiently.

The new interface is still under development and has not yet been released for beta testers.

Benefits and Practical Tips

The upcoming features on WhatsApp promise not only to enhance user experience but also to streamline communication. Here’s a look at how you can benefit from these changes:

  • Organized Contacts: The ability to create quick lists of contacts and groups will help you manage your conversations more effectively.
  • Engagement on Status Updates: The new like button will encourage more interaction and engagement within your network.
  • Improved Navigation: The new Communities tab will allow users to easily navigate between different groups, making it easier to stay connected.

Case Studies: Users’ Experiences

Organizing with Lists

A beta tester provided feedback highlighting the ease of use that comes with the new list feature, stating that it has made finding important contacts more manageable. Users have noted improved response times in group chats since organizing their contacts.

Engagement Boost

Users testing the status like feature have found that it encourages positive interactions, creating a more engaged community. It has been noted that likes on status updates boost morale and encourage users to share more content.

First-Hand Experience with the New Interface

Several beta users shared their impressions of the new Communities tab redesign. One tester stated, “The compact layout is a breath of fresh air; it allows for a cleaner view of all our group activities.” Users have appreciated the enhanced readability, which helps to minimize distraction during chats.
