15 years of AWesA: A duel for history

Hendrik Scheel’s (right) goal was celebrated by his “new teammates” Fabian Boll and Fabio Morena. It was a great “Pauli-Gaudi” that the cult club from the neighborhood held last Saturday at the Emmerthal district sports facility. In addition to their footballing class, the stars from Millerntor also put on a lot of showmanship. This was very well received by the 2,800 fans. And it caused a huge response in the media across Germany. The videotext was also full of reports of the oddities of this friendly match. The BILD newspaper reported on the match of the century twice on the Internet – with the headline: “St. Pauli’s crazy test in Emmerthal”. The HAMBURGER MORGENPOST also reported in its online edition: “The 90 minutes against the district league team TSG Emmerthal are probably among the craziest performances that a Bundesliga team has ever put on during the current season. Real fun football that delighted the 2800 spectators.” WELT ONLINE wrote: “FC St. Pauli turned the friendly match against Hameln district league team TSG Emmerthal into a huge blast.”TSG Emmerthal FC St Pauli Cayan stands before Rugby League AWesA
Like in rugby: When goalkeeper Thomas Kessler rushed forward, St. Pauli’s players chose an unusual defensive variant. TSG player Cayan Altuntas is visibly surprised. And it was really something: The TSG goals were also cheered loudly by the Pauli stars, who buried the Emmerthal goal scorers in the crowd. Also Cayan Altuntas, who scored into his own net to make it 1:19 – and was cheered up by the cheering professionals from Hamburg. St. Pauli’s central defenders spontaneously became goal scorers. FC goalkeeper Thomas Kessler shone with excursions into the opponent’s penalty area, while his teammates secured the empty goal in their own half in rugby style. Kessler then swapped his goal with TSG goalkeeper Christian Zimmermann, who promptly thanked him with an own goal. Nevertheless, Holger Stanislawski remained in a good mood. When asked whether he was annoyed about it, St. Pauli’s coach answered succinctly: “No!” He did announce a video analysis, albeit with a wink.Torsten Torster TSG Emmerthal FC St Pauli Autographs AWesA
The amateurs’ signatures were also in demand: Emmerthal’s Torsten Torster is busy signing autographs. “Anyone who wasn’t a St. Pauli fan before is one today,” said Frank Nowak, youth director of SSG Halvestorf, who was enthusiastic about the performance of Stanislawski’s eleven. Hendrik Scheel in particular will remember the big day for a long time: In the 82nd minute, FC player Timo Schultz approached the Emmerthal offensive player and asked about swapping shirts. “Of course I thought that would happen after the game,” said Scheel, completely perplexed. Because suddenly he was wearing the FC St. Pauli shirt – and was in the ranks of the Bundesliga team. And he struck against his “ex-club”: In the 84th minute, he first left Mathias Grabowski and Sebastian Kessenhagen standing, then went around keeper Kessler, who was guarding the TSG goal, and pushed the ball precisely into the net. This action in particular was to get around quickly: Scheel was also the protagonist in the BILD report. But after the “big clean-up” at the district sports facility on Sunday and Monday, the 21-year-old quickly returned to his everyday life in the district league: This evening, Scheel and his TSG will face SV Lachem at 7 p.m.
