On September 20th, Epson released four models of the “Orient Mako” chronograph watches from the “Orient” signature diver’s design series.

Orient Mako

The “Orient Mako” series has been popular as Orient’s representative work since the 1960s, and the dolphin icon on the case back is one of its features. Since its introduction in 2004, a wide variety of variations have been developed. The chronograph model, which was added to the mechanical watch lineup in 2011, uses a light-charging system that converts energy such as sunlight into electrical energy to power the watch.

The dial is painted with a blue gradation from the 12 o’clock to 6 o’clock position, evoking the beautiful sea surrounding Japan, and features a embossed pattern with a wave motif. The words “Anniversary Edition” are placed at the 4 o’clock position, and the gold hands create a special feeling of the 20th anniversary. In addition, the unidirectional rotating bezel, a characteristic of “Orient Mako”, is color-coded in stylish blue and black at the 20-minute position of the triangular marker and scale, giving it a special impression just like the design of the dial.

Light charging is done through three subdials. The index at the 12 o’clock position features Arabic numerals reminiscent of the original “Orient Mako.” Luminous light is applied to the index and hour and minute hands, making it easy to read the time even in the dark.

The watch comes in four colors: blue gradation, sky blue, red, and ivory. The windshield is made of sapphire crystal and is water resistant to 20 bar.
