Syria’s delegate calls on the Security Council to condemn the Israeli attacks on Lebanon and assume its responsibilities in preserving peace

Syria’s permanent representative to the United Nations and head of the Arab Group, Qusay al-Dahhak, said: “The Arab Group calls on the Security Council to condemn cyber terrorism and aggression against Lebanon, which represents an extension of the genocide committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people and its repeated attacks on the countries of the region, including Syria.”

He added: “By committing this heinous crime, the occupying entity has escalated its terrorism against the Lebanese without any regard for the principles of international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights charters. During its aggression against Lebanon, it also employed modern technologies, transforming ordinary devices used for civilian purposes into time bombs that kill their carriers indiscriminately.”

He stated that “the Arab Group condemns in the strongest terms the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and calls for holding its perpetrators accountable and expresses its condolences to the Lebanese government and people and to the families of the victims. The Arab Group also expresses its solidarity with Lebanon and its support for its resistance and confrontation of the Israeli aggression that threatens its security and stability and imposes additional burdens on it at a time when it is facing major challenges in various sectors.”

He pointed out that “Syria holds the countries supporting the occupying entity, primarily the United States, responsible for its persistence in aggressive acts and brutal crimes, as well as for preventing the Security Council from confronting the threat that the entity poses to international peace and security.”

Military confrontations between Lebanese factions and Israel have escalated amid fears of a comprehensive war that will cast a shadow over the region.

Events accelerated and developed in recent days after Israel blew up pager devices and assassinated Ibrahim Aqil, head of the Lebanese factions movement’s operations system and the actual commander of the special “Radwan” force.

The United Nations expressed its deep concern yesterday, Friday, about the situation in Lebanon, following an Israeli raid on the southern suburbs of Beirut.
