The winners of the Jotvingia and Young Jotvingia prizes have been selected Culture

Jurgita Jasponytė was honored for the warmth of her poetry, for her creative vision, mature, surprising and capacious poems in the book of poetry “The universe sits in the wrong place” (Lietuvos príčerųų sąjungos publishing house, 2024).

The Young Jotving Prize was awarded to Simon Bernotas for his thoughtful look at the reality reflected in his own way, the reflective and creative process itself, ending in a poem, for his rich poetic text in the book “Pasakų parkas” (Liethuvos príšenų sąjungos Leidykla, 2023).

Laureates will be awarded on October 5. In Druskininkai, at the closing evening of the 35th international literature festival “Poetic Druskininkai Autumn”.

The Jotvingiai Prize is awarded annually for the best book of poetry published in the last two years (counting from one Poetic Druskininkai Autumn Festival to the next), the Young Jotvingia Prize – for the best book of original poetry, translated poetry or poetry criticism by a young author (up to the age of 35) published in the last two years (counting from one Poetic Druskininkai Autumn Festival to the next).

The Jotvingiai Prize was established in 1985 by Sigitas Geda. In that year, the prize was awarded to the poet Korneliis Platelis for the poem “Prayer of the Jotvingians galloping towards the enemy”. When the Druskininkai Poetic Autumns began in 1990, S. Geda agreed to associate his prize with the festival. This year, the 40th Jotvingiai Award and the 27th Young Jotving Award will be presented.

Ramunė Brundzaitė, Dainius Gintalas, Gintaras Grajauskas, Rūta Lazauskaitė, Kornelijs Platelis, Alvydas Šlepikas, Ieva Toleikytė worked in the Jotvingia and Young Jotvingia Award Committee this year.

Last year, the Jotvingia prize was won by Gvidas Latakas for the poetry book “Salos”, written by Jaunoj jotvingi – Birutė Grashtė-Black (“I paid with olive leaves”).
