MDS and IOM present Project on Migration and Social Protection in the Department of San Pedro

Asuncion, IP Agency.- The Ministry of Social Development (MDS), in coordination with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), presented in the district of Santa Rosa del Aguaray, department of San Pedro, the diagnosis of the Toolkit Project, a set of tools or methodologies for social intervention aimed at migrants.

The main objective of the project aims to implement a set of tools that facilitate the (re)integration process, strengthening the capacity of government officials in assisting migrants for (re)integration, contributing to sustainable development.

The results of the diagnosis presented this Tuesday to the Social Protection Board revealed the need to characterize, identify, document and link migrants to the economic development of the territory to guarantee their protection and social inclusion.

The activity was attended by the municipal mayor of the district of Santa Rosa del Aguaray, Silvia Trubger, representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the Ministry of Social Development and the Technical Unit of the Social Cabinet (UTGS).

It should be noted that both migration and social protection are two interrelated concepts with a significant impact on societies, both from the perspective of the return and reintegration of Paraguayans, as well as immigration, which refers to the movement of people from one country to another, with the intention of settling temporarily or permanently.

All of this involves the formulation of appropriate public policies for the integration of migrants. This topic will be widely discussed this Thursday in a discussion to be held at the Hotel del Paraguay.

On this occasion, the reference framework on social protection and migrants, Paraguay’s migration policy, the results of the diagnosis and the proposed implementation plan carried out in the district of Santa Rosa del Aguaray will be contextualized.
