Triandopoulos: The payments of the special business support schemes in Thessaly have begun 2024-09-21 14:07:55

The above was carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, to support businesses affected by natural disasters in 2023.

These are the special support schemes implemented through the platform of the Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE), mybusinesssupport, and concern businesses located in areas of the Thessaly Region that were affected by the September floods and in areas of the Evros Region that were affected by the fires of August 2023, which suffered financial losses as an indirect consequence of the above phenomena.

In particular, although the platform remains open for the second phase of the schemes until September 27, today, Thursday, 10,019,657 euros were paid to 1,081 companies for all the special schemes, of which 9,968,727 euros were paid to 1,065 businesses in Thessaly and 50,930 euros were paid to 16 businesses in Evros.

The amount of the grant for each business is related to the financial loss of the business in 2023 due to the impact of natural disasters, compared to the corresponding reference period within the previous five years, which saw the highest level of turnover, with the lowest grant amount being 3,000 euros and the highest 300,000 euros. That is, the aid corresponds to a part of the reduction in turnover, with a minimum aid amount of 3,000 euros and respecting in any case the upper limits set every three years for minor aids by the Regulations of the European Commission.

Regarding today’s payment, the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, responsible for recovery from natural disasters and state aid, Christos Triandopoulos, stated that “the implementation of the measures of the state aid framework continues unabated, supporting businesses and the citizens in need after the catastrophic floods that hit Thessaly and the neighboring areas in September 2024. In this direction, the payments of the grant of the special support schemes for the businesses that suffered losses as an indirect continuation of these natural disasters. And today the first payment was made, amounting to 10 million euros to 1,081 businesses in Thessaly, including specific businesses from Evros. These are companies with losses in their turnover. And it is, in particular, with regard to Thessaly, businesses of Palamas, businesses of Farkadona, businesses that are active in the tourism sector in Pelion and other tourist areas of Thessaly, such as Lake Plastira, but also areas of the prefectures of Larissa and Trikala, businesses in the accommodation sector in Volos, businesses in the transport sector in specific areas, and businesses in the fishing and fish trading sectors. Payments will continue, as the second phase of the special schemes is still open – for the submission of declarations – and those interested can declare until September 27 for the acceptance of the grant. Another measure of the state aid framework is implemented by supporting the businesses of Thessaly, so that they mitigate their losses and get back on their feet. We continue to work closely with everyone.”

The aid scheme for Thessaly includes five different sub-schemes, as follows:

a) Businesses – except agricultural holdings – that had a headquarters or a branch in the Municipality of Palamas and in the Municipality of Farkadona that were severely affected by the floods.

b) Businesses active in the tourism sector in areas affected by unsafe access and unsuitability of water.

c) Enterprises active in the field of passenger transport in areas affected by unsafe access and unsuitability of water.

d) Businesses active in the accommodation sector in areas affected by the unsuitability of water.

e) Businesses active in the fishing and fish trading sectors in areas affected by the effects on the coastal front of Thessaly.

The aid scheme for Evros focuses on businesses active in the tourism sector in the areas of the Municipality of Soufli and the Municipal Unit of Feren of the Municipality of Alexandroupolis of the Regional Unit of Evros, which were affected by the fires of the summer of 2023.
