Calling it a historic deal, the ministry said the system, jointly developed by Israeli and United States companies, can intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft and drones.
This was announced after Israel signed a $3.5 billion deal in September. dollar (3.21 billion euros) deal – the largest ever in the small country’s arms sector – for the sale of the Arrow 3 hypersonic missile system to Germany.
The long-range Arrow 3 system was also jointly developed and manufactured by Israeli companies and its biggest ally, the United States, and the sale had to be approved by Washington to complete.
The deal comes as Germany leads a push to bolster NATO’s air defenses in Europe after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine last year and calls for allies to jointly buy deterrent systems.
New NATO member Finland was also quick to announce plans to acquire Israel’s anti-aircraft and missile defense system.
Analysts say the ongoing war in Ukraine could further increase demand for Israeli weapons in Europe.
Finland became the 31st member of NATO in April.
Finland, along with neighboring Sweden, abandoned its traditional policy of military non-alignment last year and applied for membership because of Russia’s war in Ukraine.
