Maduro’s government denounces collection of funds abroad for attacks in Venezuela

Caracas, Sep 20 (EFE).- The Venezuelan government on Friday denounced the fundraising abroad to finance “attacks” in the country, after a campaign promoted by the American military businessman Erik Prince was revealed on social networks, in which he calls for the collection 10 million dollars to “restore democracy” in the South American nation.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro told United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres on Friday that his government is facing “external aggression” following the July 28 elections, in which the Chavista leader was declared the winner, a move that has been questioned inside and outside the country.

It is about the «hiring mercenaries to invade the country and assassination attempts” and a campaign on “social networks, in which they even promote the collection of funds to carry out attacks against institutions,” Maduro warned – the Executive explained in a press release – in his telephone conversation with Guterres.

Before the president, the Minister of Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, referred directly to this fundraising campaign circulating on the Internet under the name ‘Ya casi Venezuela’ (Almost Venezuela), which has received more than a million dollars in the last five days, according to the website of this movement.

“This Mr. Erik Prince (is) openly threatening to come here (…) they should know that we are not unarmed. “They will receive a strong response, on the front line, from the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB),” the minister stressed in a video shared on Instagram.

He also said that this “operation” promoted by Prince, which the Government describes as mercenary, “will not happen,” because these plans will be met by a “people who will never allow blood to be shed (in Venezuela) because the imperialists from the north wanted it to.”

The ‘Ya casi Venezuela’ website states that the donations will be used to finance “key initiatives that seek to restore freedom and a future” to the oil-producing country, where the majority opposition has denounced electoral fraud, claiming that its standard-bearer, Edmundo González Urrutia, won the presidential election against Maduro by a wide margin.

In addition, in one of the videos published on X, Prince urges people to “vote with dollars” and concludes with the phrase “we are about to arrive,” although without explaining how he plans to “restore democracy” in Venezuela or the dates for the implementation of his plan.
