SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA, Spain (EFE).— One of the survivors of the fishing boat that sank This week around Falkland Islands received urgent and specialized medical assistance before reaching land through the Service of Vithas Telemedicinereported the Spanish clinic.

The sailor was rescued by the fishing vessel “Robin M. Lee”, a Spanish vessel equipped with a sophisticated satellite healthcare system to provide medical coverage to the crews of fishing boats on the high seas, and which transferred some of the victims to Port Stanley, in the Falkland Islands.

Still on the high seas the captain used the satellite assistance system to connect with the medical team of the Spanish hospital.

The first examination revealed that he was suffering from hypothermia, with a body temperature below 36 degrees, and he had clear signs of cold skin.

He was oriented and, after being given tranquilizers, a remote electrocardiogram was performed which revealed an arrhythmia, probably derived from the state of hypothermia in which he was, and which was already being treated with dry clothing, thermal blankets and warm liquids.

To treat the disease The castaway was given medication that had been added and prescribed previously by the Vithas clinic to the ship’s first aid kit.

About half an hour later, the patient began to recover and was monitored, with periodic checks similar to those he would undergo if he were admitted for observation in a hospital.
