HEZBOLLAH leader Hassan Nasrallah said the attacks on his members in Lebanon and Syria that involved pagers and walkie talkies have gone too far, vowing to retaliate against the attacks, which he said were carried out by Israel.
Nasrallah made his first televised speech. The attacks lasted two days and killed at least 37 people. He vowed to continue supporting the Palestinians against Israel.
“This is unprecedented in the history of the resistance movement in Lebanon and in the history of our country,” he said, as reported by Al Jazeera, Friday (20/9).
“The enemy has crossed all rules, laws and red lines. They do not care about anything morally, humanely and legally,” he added.
The blast reportedly injured more than 2,900 people, 287 of whom were in critical condition, raising concerns that the near-daily exchanges of fire between Hezbollah and Israel could escalate into a full-blown war.
Israel has not acknowledged the attack. Tens of thousands of Israelis have reportedly returned to their homes near the border with Lebanon.
Nasrallah called the explosion a terrorist act and a declaration of war against the Lebanese people and the country’s sovereignty.
The pagers and walkie-talkies exploded inside hospitals, markets, homes and several areas where civilians were present. Nasrallah accused Israel of deliberately setting up bombs of 4,000 pagers and 1,000 walkie-talkies with the aim of killing as many civilians as possible (Z-6)
