• Through the Program In Michoacán we read, for a more sensitive, creative and critically thinking society
MORELIA, Mich.- The State Government and the Ministry of Education (SEE) celebrate the success of the program En Michoacán se lee (In Michoacán, people read), which brings 400 thousand books, workshops, fairs and talks to schools throughout the state.
With the vision of Governor Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla and the leadership of the Secretary of Education, Gabriela Molina Aguilar, we are working to promote reading in the classrooms to foster a more sensitive, creative and critically thinking society.
With the help of teachers and parents, school libraries have been strengthened and created in all regions of the state, directly benefiting preschool, primary and secondary school students.
Michoacán se lee seeks to increase the number of readers, strengthen public libraries, promote literary production and create reading spaces, which will make books accessible to all girls, boys and adolescents in the state.
The strategy includes not only the provision of school libraries, but also the promotion of the creation of school newspapers, the donation of books, the promotion of reading clubs in schools, the holding of fairs, literary competitions and visits by authors such as the director of the Fondo de Cultura Económica (FCE), Paco Ignacio Taibo II, and the renowned illustrator Ricardo Peláez.
Secretary Gabriela Molina praises the commitment of teachers, who have been a key part in the implementation of this program. “Their passion for reading, their support for the program, and their dedication to education have inspired thousands of students to discover the pleasure of reading. Today, Michoacán is better.”
