Yedioth Ahronoth added that Netanyahu responded to Macron that instead of pressuring Israel, it was time to increase pressure on the Lebanese factions.
The Hebrew newspaper quoted a French official as saying: “We believe that the recent security developments in Lebanon have increased the chances of war.”
Military confrontations between Lebanese factions and Israel have escalated amid fears of a comprehensive war that will cast a shadow over the region.
Events accelerated and developed in recent days after Israel blew up pager devices and assassinated Ibrahim Aqil, head of the Lebanese factions movement’s operations system and the actual commander of the special “Radwan” force.
Israel also claimed on Thursday evening, September 19, to have destroyed 100 Hezbollah missile platforms through a series of intensive airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon, amid a mutual escalation of a series of large-scale explosions of communications devices in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday that left 37 dead and thousands wounded.
In return, the Lebanese factions targeted several Israeli sites and towns, including Safed, and military headquarters, and launched about 150 rockets towards the Galilee and the Golan, according to the Israeli army.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces have continued their devastating war on the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023.
The war on the Gaza Strip entered its 350th day yesterday, Friday, September 20, during which more than 41,272 Palestinians were killed and about 95,550 were injured.
