CUERNAVACA, Morelos (El Universal).— Femsa, the soft drink company that produces Coca-Cola, has temporarily suspended distribution of its product in the southern part of the state after four workers at its plant in the municipality of Puente de Ixtla were kidnapped and taken to another state to steal the merchandise.
The issue, reported the acting governor, Samuel Sotelo Salgado, was discussed at the Coordination Table for the Construction of Peace, where agreements were reached to apply alternatives in security issues and the execution of some actions.
The acting governor indicated that there is no impact from job losses because the corporation’s decision is only to stop supplying soft drinks in that area and they are coming to Cuernavaca.
The Coca-Cola soft drink workers, deprived of their freedom, filed a criminal complaint with the State Attorney General’s Office, suspecting that the case involved organized crime.
Sotelo Salgado said they hope the company will resume its activities in the municipality of Puente de Ixtla, and to achieve this, the state government is offering alternatives in terms of security.
On the other hand, the president of the Authentic Federation of Transport (FAT), Dagoberto Rivera Jaimes, confirmed the partial suspension of work on Route 11 in the municipality of Temixco, due to harassment by organized crime that demands a fee from operators.
The leader of the transporters reported that on Wednesday, around 9 am, five operators were robbed of the keys to their trucks by criminals who demanded that they pay protection money.
