YouTube has begun to implement a new way of displaying advertising on the platform with the introduction of the Ads during video breakswhich have been widely released to all users, except for those with a YouTube Premium subscription.

In May of last year, the technology company shared a series of new features regarding advertising shown on large screens, such as Smart TVs, which would show fewer but longer ads, without the possibility of skipping.

Additionally, the platform also advanced new ways to integrate advertising, such as Ability to display ads when users pause a videoThis option was positively valued for its good performance, as indicated by Google during the call with investors for the financial results of Alphabet (Google’s parent company) for the first quarter of this year.

According to Google’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Business, Philipp Schindler, tests carried out with this type of “uninterrupted” format advertising on YouTube, drove “solid brand improvement results” as well as encouraging “premium prices for advertisers.”

As a result, the company began to extend testing of this format to more users recently, as shared by some users through posts on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter), who found these ads when pausing a video.

Now, in addition to the usual ads that interrupt the viewing of a video or appear when a playback begins, YouTube has confirmed that it will also show ads during the pause of a video, as stated in statements to The Verge.

In this regard, as explained by YouTube communications manager Oluwa Falodun, This option has been widely implemented for all advertisers as a “less disruptive” type of advertising, as it does not interrupt the viewing of the content. Users will not be able to avoid new ads during video breaks, unless they have a YouTube Premium subscription.
