The fitness course at Anger is open!
Almost exactly three years after the opening of the Kneipp pool on the Anger, a new element of health care and local recreation has been added to the Anger: a fitness course consisting of 12 outdoor sports equipment that can be used all year round. The equipment in different themed zones was selected so that full-body training is possible for young and old. On Friday, September 20, the facility was officially opened, also in the presence of members of the Round Table for Sports, which had initiated the facility. Also present at the press event were Mayor Peter Köstler, Head of Civil Engineering Sabine Vilano and representatives of the specialist companies carrying out the work.
In May 2021, the “Round Table Sports” initiative was presented for the first time to the Gräfelfing municipal council, and its meetings resulted in plans for numerous sporting activities. The idea was to bring those involved in sports life together and consider how the offering in Gräfelfing could be further improved. One suggestion that arose from the citizens’ suggestions was the installation of fitness equipment on green spaces. After extensive preparations and a few weeks of construction, the time has now come: the fitness course could be handed over to the citizens for use. The Freiraum office was responsible for the planning of the course, and the Brands company was responsible for installation, earthworks and path construction with planting.
A new attraction
The 12 outdoor sports equipment were professionally installed on an area in the northern part of the playground, near the toilet blocks on the green. The fitness course was accessed via a new path between Kirchweg and the playground.
“I am really pleased that the fitness course is now in operation,” said Mayor Peter Köstler. “It is simply a great idea and fits perfectly into the sporty ensemble of the green spaces on the Anger – we have a lot of cyclists, joggers and swimmers here in the summer, the Kneipp pool is used a lot, there is the summer curling rink, the boules facility, and on Sundays there is a regular “Fit on the Würm” fitness training for everyone, which is organized by the adult education center. The fitness course naturally fits in well and will be a new attraction for doing something for your health in beautiful, green surroundings. I would like to thank the people who came up with the idea and everyone who helped to implement it. The fitness course is open practically around the clock and is accessible to the public, which is of course a great advantage, in keeping with the low-threshold sports offer that the Round Table Sport wants to promote.”
Natural design
“The design in three themed islands appeals to different target groups,” says Sabine Vilano, head of civil engineering. “The facility is open to young people aged 14 and over, or those over 1.40 meters tall, and of course to adults. The entire project was designed to be as natural as possible, visually incorporating the surroundings. The final planting will take place in late autumn. The municipality of Gräfelfing will ensure that the facility is maintained and safe for traffic. High-quality equipment and materials were used, so that the maintenance requirement should be kept to a minimum and the equipment is of course completely safe to use.” In November, around 30 trees and hedges will be planted. The trees will also provide long-term shade for the facility and ensure that the ensemble fits well into the surroundings.

And another project nearby is already in the starting blocks: the water playground on the renaturalized branch of the Würm is also due to be completed in the autumn. Its various features and educational concepts will appeal more to younger children. They can play with the water there in various ways.
