The small border town of Pacaraima, Brazil, is overwhelmed by the massive arrival of Venezuelan migrants.

In August of this year alone, a record 12,325 admissions were registered, according to information handled by the Brazilian authorities.

Political uncertainty following the presidential election and the economic crisis in Venezuela have prompted thousands of people to seek refuge in Brazil.

Entire families arrive in Pacaraima hoping to find better opportunities, but they face a lack of infrastructure and resources to care for such a large number of migrants.

Camps

Makeshift camps have sprung up across the city as Brazilian authorities work to process the paperwork for new arrivals.

According to a recent report, the daily flow is between 550 and 600 people, highlighting the urgency of addressing the needs of migrants.

Organizations that protect the migrant population have set up shelters in both Pacaraima and the state capital, Boa Vista, but demand has exceeded their capacity, according to local media.
