Banco Metropolitano informs retirees and pensioners in Havana

The Metropolitan Bank of Havana, with more than a million clients in the Cuban capital, launched a message this September for retirees and pensioners about their retirement. Details below.

From today, this financial institution will be paying the retirement and pension benefits of retirees and senior citizens in the capital, for those who were born before 1944.

The Metropolitan Bank of Havana has already announced the payment dates for retirees and pensioners of social security, maintaining five groups according to the year of birth. The payment dates are as follows:

– Group 1: Born until 1944 – September 19
– Group 2: Born between 1945 and 1950 – September 20
– Group 3: Born between 1951 and 1955 – September 21
– Group 4: Born between 1956 and 1961 – September 23
– Group 5: Born from 1962 onwards – September 24

The last payment date for those who receive their pension by electronic payroll will be October 10, 2024. In addition, retirees with bank loans can pay their monthly debt at the branches of their municipality.

Banco Metropolitano also reported that priority will be given to serving retirees and pensioners throughout the day.

They also suggest that the rest of the population use electronic payment channels through QR codes or the Caja EXTRA service to withdraw cash, as alternatives to avoid crowds.

Cuban retirees, in the midst of the current crisis, continue to demand an increase in their pensions following recent salary increases in sectors such as Health and Education.

Resolution 7 of 2024 of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, published in the Official Gazette last May, implemented new salary measures for workers in the Education, Health and Higher Education sectors.

This measure sparked an intense debate among Cubans, especially among retirees and pensioners, who feel marginalized in the midst of an economic crisis that is worsening on the island and hitting them hard. But there are no retirement improvements in sight from the government.
