The President of the Kuwait Football Association, his deputy and the Secretary-General are facing charges in a state security case, for making statements that harm the country’s interests with friendly countries, in addition to the events of the Kuwait-Iraq match and its failure to be organized in the required manner.
The Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Siyasa reported that the Public Prosecution opened investigations with the accused yesterday, Wednesday, and finished them this morning.
The Board of Directors of the Kuwait Football Association submitted its resignation last Saturday, following an emergency meeting of its members, against the backdrop of what happened in the match between the Kuwaiti national team and its guest, Iraq, last week, in the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.
The decision came after the Council reviewed the content of the report submitted by the investigation committee into the “unacceptable” events that accompanied the meeting and the chaos it witnessed.
The union faced harsh criticism after the end of the match, due to the poor organization and chaos in the process of fans entering, as a result of tickets not being linked to seat numbers, a large number of fans entering without tickets and depriving a number of others who did, and the lack of drinking water inside the stadium despite the temperature reaching 40 degrees Celsius, which led to cases of fainting and suffocation.
Kuwaiti newspapers launched an attack on the organizers of the match between the Kuwaiti and Iraqi national teams, describing it as a scandal of poor organization, and expressed their concerns due to Kuwait’s proximity to hosting the 26th Gulf Cup.
