Miami (dpa) – Shohei Ohtani has impressively demonstrated why he is currently considered the best baseball player in the world. The 30-year-old Japanese not only hit three home runs in his Los Angeles Dodgers’ 20-4 victory over the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball (MLB), but also set a special record. Ohtani is the first player in MLB history to reach the mark of 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases in one season.
LeBron James excited by Ohtani’s record
“I’m going to remember this for a long time. To be honest, I’m probably the most surprised about it,” said Ohtani about his milestone. “This guy isn’t real,” said basketball superstar LeBron James enthusiastically.
Ohtani is the first athlete with a contract worth a reported $700 million, a sum that extends over a ten-year contract period. “Shohei is probably the most talented baseball player who has ever played the game,” says the Dogers president about his player.
