National Fire Brigade Corps mourns the death of the missing department head after his service car was swept away by a flooded stream on the SS89 between San Severo and Apricena, in the Foggia area. The lifeless body was recovered by fellow divers inside the car, just downstream from where it was swept away during rescue operations due to bad weather. The colleague who had managed to abandon the car was saved, but was injured and taken to hospital in non-serious conditions.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of the fire department chief whose car was swept away by a flooded stream while he and his team were working in the Foggia area to provide assistance to the population after a wave of bad weather hit the area. I express my closeness and deepest condolences to his family and to the entire National Corps. I wish a speedy recovery to the colleague who was in the car, who was injured and hospitalized.” This was stated by the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi.
