Lelystad the new Barcelona? Bus tour for new residents

Lelystad is one of the youngest cities in the Netherlands, but many people have no idea what there is to see and do. That is why the city is now initiating a bus tour for the new residents, so that they can quickly get to know everything the city has to offer.

A hop-on-hop-off bus tour like they have in Barcelona, London or Amsterdam you will not find in Lelystad. “This bus tour is developed for new residents of Lelystad”, says tour guide Cynthia Hoogveld in Goedemorgen Nederland on NPO 1.

Lelystad has a lot to offer its new residents. “We want to introduce our new residents to the city.” The reactions to the bus tour are enthusiastic, says Hoogveld.

Former mayor of Almere Annemarie Jorritsma knows the city quite well. She agrees that the provincial capital has a lot to offer. “I think the idea of doing a bus tour like this for your new residents is great.”

‘People hardly know what the city looks like’

“If you are going to live in Amsterdam, you often already know the city a little bit. But people who are going to live in Lelystad or Almere often don’t know the city at all,” says Jorritsma.

Such a tour would not be a bad idea in Almere either. “I think many Almere residents only know the part of the city where they live, but hardly know what the rest looks like. That is a shame.” Jorritsma herself says she always makes a small tour of her city when she takes people into her home.
