IPS extends hours for mammography and breast ultrasound studies

Asuncion, IP Agency.- As part of the fight against breast cancer, the Radiology Service of the Central Hospital of the Social Security Institute, as every year, is extending its opening hours to every Saturday for mammography and breast ultrasound studies.

Within this framework, throughout the month of October, on Saturdays 5, 12, 19 and 26, there will be service from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. for mammography studies and from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for breast ultrasound studies.

Patients who already have a medical order can schedule their appointments at the Diagnostic and Imaging Center. Likewise, those who do not have such an order can go to the Radiology Service, where they will be provided with the order for the annual screening (mammography) for women 40 years of age and older.

The studies are carried out in the Radiology Service, located in Pavilion 3 of the basement of the Central Hospital.

Recommendations for conducting medical studies

It is recommended to avoid cream, talcum powder or deodorant in the breast area that may affect the quality of the image, since it could be confused with lesions and the diagnostic study will have to be repeated.

Postmenopausal women can have a mammogram on any day. However, in the premenopausal stage, when the menstrual cycle is still ongoing, the study is recommended between the fifth and tenth day.

This is because during menstruation the breasts are more sensitive and the study requires compression of the breasts, which can cause greater discomfort, and because of greater hormonal stimulation during this cycle, the breasts appear denser.

Another very important point to keep in mind is that the woman must not be pregnant, since mammography is ionizing radiation and a woman with an incipient pregnancy cannot be irradiated, according to the IPS Central Hospital.
