Pakistan’s own ‘Rajnikanth’

Colleagues of Rahmat Gushkuri, who recently retired from government service, have been telling him that he looks like Indian superstar Rajinikanth.

According to a report in Arab News, when Rehmat, 62, Googled Rajinikanth’s name on the Internet, he found that his fellow Tamil actor Shivaji Rao Gaikwad, popularly known as Rajinikanth, was referring to him.

Rajinikanth is so revered in India that his pictures have been regularly showered with thousands of gallons of milk for decades.

This act is a sign of devotion that is reserved for Hindu deities.

Often Rajinikanth’s films are released with religious rituals and the release dates of his films are awaited like national festival holidays.

Rehmat liked his resemblance to Rajinikanth but initially did not pay much attention to it.

After his retirement from government service, when he started posting hunting videos on social media, people started linking him to Rajinikanth.

In an interview to Arab News, he said, ‘During my government service at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Sibi, I initially did not pay attention to the comments made about my resemblance to Rajinikanth.

‘After retirement I started using social media where many people started calling me by the same name.

‘I accepted it because I realized that God has blessed me with the likeness of a great actor and human being.’

Rahmat then decided to adopt the unique style of the South Indian artist, who is known for his stunts.

These stunts became the basis for brilliant jokes and online memes depicting him as a superhero who can run faster than the speed of light and is capable of stopping storms and high-speed trains with just a breath of air.

Rehmat laughed and said that he knew he still couldn’t act like Rajinikanth, but he enjoyed the attention he got from looking like the biggest action star.

“I remember once I went to Karachi for a medical check-up. When I went to a shopping mall, a large number of people gathered around me and started taking selfies.

Some people asked, ‘Are you Rajinikanth?’ ‘Yes, but I am Pakistani,’ I replied.

He further said that people from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Nepal comment on his pictures and call him Rajinikanth.

Rehmat’s former office colleague Ghulam Hyder Rand says that people throughout Sabi district call him Rajinikanth instead of his real name.

“Whenever we saw him on the job, the way he entered the office, got out of his car and went to his room, there was definitely nothing that was not like Rajinikanth,” says Rind.

Imran Hara, a 27-year-old resident of Sibi, said that he had seen thousands of people turning towards Rahmat at a district-level festival.
