Just a few days after its launch last Monday (16), iOS 18 has already been presenting problems for Apple users. A serious bug was discovered in iMessege, a messaging app. This bug can be triggered in a very specific situation, crashing the device and causing data loss.
Bug grave no iMessage causa problema no IOS 18
It all starts when someone shares an Apple Watch watch face in an iMessage conversation. If you’re using iOS 18 and receive a message with that watch face, it’s crucial that you don’t reply to it.
If the message is replied to, the iMessage app will start crashing whenever the user tries to open that conversation. The crashing can be so frequent that it can even make it difficult to interact with other conversations. iMessage also crashes in beta versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1.
Furthermore, the bug affects not only the person receiving the message, but also the person who shared it. The symptoms are identical for both sides.
Reproduction: AppleHow to fix iMessage bug on iOS 18
The only solution at this time is for both users to delete the conversation from their phone. It’s important to note that this action will result in the deletion of the entire message history, including attachments such as photos and videos that were not saved outside of iMessage.
If the user deletes the conversation and then tries to restore it from the deleted items section, the bug will reappear, rendering this workaround ineffective. Apple is expected to address this issue in the upcoming iOS 18 update (likely called iOS 18.0.1), which can’t come soon enough.
Apple is expected to fix the issue soon on iOS, macOS, and watchOS. Until an update is released, users are advised to avoid replying to messages in threads if someone shares an Apple Watch watch face.
