The Governments of Venezuela and Iraq agreed to boost cooperation in various fields, including agriculture, science, civil aviation, trade, energy, culture and national security, according to the PSUV party.
A press release states that the Venezuelan deputy minister for Asia, the Middle East and Oceania, Tatiana Pugh, and the Iraqi chargé d’affaires in Caracas, Khalid Kareem Zangana, met and reached an agreement.

Pugh highlighted Iraq’s “resilience,” comparing it to that of Venezuelans, who “have overcome the challenges imposed by U.S. imperialism.”
Both nations share fundamental values such as sovereignty, self-determination and independence.
In May last year, the two countries reviewed their bilateral agreements in the areas of culture, tourism and air transport, following a meeting between their respective officials.
Venezuela and Iraq established diplomatic relations in 1950 and, according to the Foreign Ministry, ties between the two countries were strengthened from 1960, in the context of their similarities in the energy sector as founding members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
