Indonesian women’s singles badminton player Putri Kusuma Wardani has successfully made it to the final of the 2024 Hong Kong Open. She advanced from the semifinals after defeating Japanese player Tomoka Miyazaki.
For Putri, it was not easy to defeat Miyazaki. Because, she lost the second game after winning 22-20 in the first game. Miyazaki equalized in the second game after winning 23-21. However, Putri’s fighting spirit was stronger than her opponent so she was able to close the match with a score of 21-18.
“Quite happy and proud of today’s result. I managed to break through to the first semifinal round at the Super 500 level, a new achievement to be grateful for,” said Putri after the match. “I’m also touched because I could get here (final round),” she said again.
Putri said before arriving in Hong Kong, she often trained harder to restore her performance. She often asked for additional training portions, both technical and physical. “Alhamdulillah, I have started to return to my best form. Not 100% yet but it’s quite good,” she continued.
In the final round which will take place on Sunday (15/9), Putri will challenge the third seed from China, Han Yue. Putri’s opponent qualified for the semifinals after winning 22-20 and 21-10 over Thailand’s representative Pornpawee Chochuwong. (Z-6)
