In September we invite you to a special evening at the zoo. We present the impressive documentary “National Parks of the Future: Yaguas” by director Thomas Radler. The film takes you to the Yaguas National Park in the north of the Peruvian Amazon region – a huge, untouched rainforest area of 8,700 square kilometers that is one of the most species-rich and valuable regions in the world. However, the national park is facing major challenges: illegal logging, gold mining and coca cultivation are increasingly threatening the region. The film shows the immense importance of the park for global climate protection and highlights the crucial role that indigenous communities played in the founding and maintenance of the park.
After the screening, we look forward to a discussion with Teófilo Torres, the director of the Yaguas National Park. He will tell us first-hand how the park came into being and why its protection is so important.
