The Federal Minister of Science and Technology has announced the introduction of battery-powered eco-friendly motorcycles and rickshaws in the country.
Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry rode a battery-powered motorcycle and rickshaw during a visit to the Pakistan Council for Renewable Energy and Technologies.
According to the Federal Minister, these electric vehicles will help in the conservation of energy and environment.
Fawad Chaudhry said that battery powered vehicles are the future of transportation and will revolutionize transportation in Pakistan where most of the people travel on motorcycles and rickshaws.
He explained that the government wants to convert the transport to electronic technology which will reduce the dependence on petrol.
He said that ‘the use of electronic vehicles will also reduce carbon emissions in the environment’.
He also announced the introduction of a brand of bottled drinking water which will initially be supplied to government offices.
Fawad Chaudhry said that the name of the water brand will be ‘Safe Drinking Water’ which will be cheaper than other mineral water brands available in the market.
Earlier in July, the Pakistan Council for Research on Water Resources had told a parliamentary committee that all mineral water companies in Pakistan were selling ‘artificial’ water instead of natural water.
He said that other countries do not allow such companies to sell ‘artificial’ water.
