The wave of superhero films that continues to this day began in the early 2000s with “X-Men” (2000) and “Spider-Man” (2002). But if “Iron Man” hadn’t given the starting signal for the MCU’s inimitable success story a few years later, superhero films would probably have disappeared into obscurity pretty quickly. Because not every film could match the qualities of “X-Men” or “Spider-Man” – after all, it’s not for nothing that titles like “Fantastic Four” or “Ghost Rider” are almost forgotten today.
The word “almost” is of crucial importance here, because of course Marvel fans from the very beginning still have these films on their radar – and through the mega-blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine“ became “Blade” lead actors Wesley Snipes or the first superhero steps of Chris Evans as the “Fantastic Four” flame was brought to the attention of a huge audience. And of course, this list also includes “Elektra“which was released in 2005 in the wake of Ben Affleck’s not exactly glorious “Daredevil” film – and failed at the box office because it was torn to pieces by fans and the specialist press.

After her death in “Daredevil”, the title character is revived at the beginning of “Elektra” by her teacher Stick (Terence Stamp) and taught a martial art called Kimagure. A few years later, Elektra meets 13-year-old Abby (Kirsten Prout) and her father Mark (Goran Višnjić), but soon realizes that she is supposed to kill these two of all people. The killer cannot bring herself to do that, however. Instead, she protects father and daughter from the other assassins sent by the organization “The Hand”…
While you shouldn’t expect a masterpiece in “Elektra,” we’re definitely curious to see whether “Deadpool & Wolverine” was just the beginning and whether there will be more MCU appearances by Jennifer Garner in the future.
