Day of civil defense workers

This holiday was established to honor workers who protect the population and territories from man-made and natural emergencies.

The history of this holiday began in 2004, when the Day of Fire Protection Workers and the Day of the Rescuer were canceled, and a single holiday was established in their place – the Day of Civil Protection Workers. However, in 2008, it was decided to restore the Savior’s Day, which again became an official holiday.

This professional holiday was established in 1993, although at first it did not have an official status. The purpose of this day is to honor insurance market workers who ensure financial stability and protection of citizens and businesses from various risks. World Klifstra Syndrome Awareness Day

The day is dedicated to raising awareness of Klifstra syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. Klifstra syndrome is caused by mutations in the EHMT1 gene and is characterized by developmental delay, intellectual disabilities, hypotonia (reduced muscle tone), and characteristic facial features.

People with this syndrome may have speech problems, behavioral difficulties, and other medical complications.

What a church holiday today

September 17 in the church calendar is the day of memory of the holy martyr Sophia and her daughters: Faith, Hope and Love. They lived in the II century in Rome during the time of Emperor Hadrian. Sophia was a pious widow who raised her daughters in the love of God. Her daughters bore the names of the main Christian virtues: Faith, Hope and Love. They openly confessed their faith in Christ, which attracted the attention of the emperor.

Emperor Hadrian ordered them to be brought to him and tried to persuade them to renounce Christianity, but they remained adamant. For this, they were subjected to cruel torture: they were burned on an iron grate, thrown into a red-hot furnace and into a cauldron with boiling pitch. However, thanks to God’s power, they remained unharmed. Sophia was forced to look at the suffering of her daughters, but she showed unusual courage and supported them in their faith. After the death of her daughters, Sophia buried them and three days later died next to their grave.
