As the finale of Saturday 14th approaches with the live soundtrack of the film The Three Musketeers, the 28th edition of “Elba Isola Musicale d’Europa” still has an appointment in store at the Teatro dei Vigilanti “Renato Cioni” in Portoferraio, one of the most precious of the entire festival programme: Friday 13th (6.30pm) the recently restored Napoleonic theatre is in fact hosting a concert by the piano-clarinet duo of Georgij Osokins and Tommaso Lonquich. The two refined instrumentalists will dialogue on the notes of Alba Berg’s Four Pieces for Clarinet and Piano op. 5 and Robert Schumann’s Fantasiestücke. The Lithuanian pianist will have Johannes Brahms’ Piano Sonata no. 2 op.2 to open the concert, while Lonquich will express all his virtuosity in Igor Stravinsky’s Three Pieces for Clarinet Solo.
Georgy Osokin He gained international attention after competing at the age of 19 in the 2015 Chopin Competition, where his performances were met with acclaim but also sparked a “case.” The Lithuanian pianist was a crowd favorite and critics described him as “exceptional and unpredictable,” but before the finals, despite having a good chance of winning, he left the competition following an invitation to perform as a soloist at the prestigious “Chopin and His Europe” festival in Warsaw and on his first tour of Japan.
Since 2018 Georgijs has been collaborating with the great violinist Gidon Kremer performing chamber music by Chopin, works by Bach, Mozart, Schumann, Weinberg and Silvestrov.
