As part of the European Week of Sport, which runs from 23 to 30 September, Sport and Citizenship will hold a breakfast debate on the impact of sport on ocean protection on 30 October in Brussels. For over 40 years, the European Union has highlighted the need for action to combat climate change, preserve the environment and restore biodiversity, with policies such as the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030.
The project “Ocean Sustainability through Education and Sport” (OSES), led by Sport et Citoyenneté, aims to educate young people in eco-responsible behavior, at sea and on the coasts, through sport. This debate will be an opportunity to discuss the key role that sports activities can play in preserving marine ecosystems. Indeed, the “green sport” dimension has been integrated into the European Union Work Plan for Sport, highlighting that sport can contribute to the fight against climate change.
We will discuss concrete initiatives implemented by local and regional sports organizations, as well as the social and environmental impact of educational actions carried out on the ground. Come and discuss with us how sport can raise awareness of the challenges of preserving oceans and seas, and contribute to a more sustainable future for all.
This breakfast debate marks the beginning of a new series of events. Our Think Tank wishes to create a friendly space for reflection to address the major societal issues of sport. This format, which we would like to organize every 3 to 4 months in Brussels, will allow for exchanges in small groups, promoting in-depth and constructive discussions. At the end of the discussions, we will share with you the central point that will have crystallized the debates.
This new event will bring together, among others, sports stakeholders (institutional or private), scientists and decision-makers such as European deputies with the aim of creating a positive synergy around the issues of the social impact of sport.
Sold out event.
